Yanish Farrier Service, LLC

JOE YANISH, CJF, CPF

  • Joe has been around horses his whole life. He enjoys riding and driving horses and has owned many through the years from ponies and minis to stock, pleasure and draft breeds to donkeys and mules. He and his family enjoy their current herd that they use for trail riding and light competition.

  • Joe has been doing farrier work since 2006. He has attended the MN School of Horseshoeing and Heartland Horseshoeing School.

  • He continues his education by attending clinics and seminars on a regular basis both nationally and internationally as well as pursuing certifications through the American Farrier's Association (AFA) and the Farrier International Testing System (FITS). Through the AFA he has achieved his Certified Farrier (CF) and Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF).

  • Joe was honored at the 2017 AFA National Convention for earning the highest score on the practical portion of the CF exam out of all the participants in 2016. Through the FITS he has achieved his Certified Farrier (CF) and Certified Professional Farrier (CPF).

  • Joe has a variety of clientele that participate in an assortment of horse disciplines from barrel racing to dressage to pleasure showing to pasture pets to much more. Some of his clients require therapeutic trimming and/or shoeing while others he maintains balanced hooves so that they won't require any special correction in the future.

  • With his education he is able to recognize the possible beginnings of a situation before it becomes a huge issue. He has traveled from Alaska to Argentina learning and/or educating. Joe is a volunteer leader and educator for the 4-H horse program and is happy to offer demonstrations to 4-H horse clubs.

  • Joe also does presentations for fairs, schools, other  clubs and organizations as well as doing his yearly demonstrations at the Forest City Stockade. Knowledge is power and horse owners who know hoof basics can keep their hooved friends hoof healthy for years to come.

  • He is a member of the American Farrier's Association and the Minnesota Farrier's Association. You can learn more about the schools and organizations below.

"The FITS exams are being created so that the farrier industry of one country can have in common something with the farrier industry of another country. This will benefit both the horse and farrier from every country involved, and give farriers exceptional education opportunities. Having a goal and target creates major growth in skill." ~ FITS

There are 3 parts to each certification level and they are  judged by 2 examiners (at least one being foreign). The 3 parts of a certification are:

"The AFA Certification program is dedicated to the welfare of the horse. The certification test is not a mandate or blueprint on how to shoe any individual horse. It is, rather, an objective assessment of the specific skills necessary to perform the job of farriery to a prescribed standard. Those who pass it possess the ability to provide a healthy standard of hoof care.

Farriers who pass the AFA Certified Farrier examination exhibit a working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, gaits, and horseshoes and their various uses. They display the ability to identify, assess, trim, and protect, structures of the hoof. They demonstrate shoe fit and modifications to specific standards and patterns." ~ AFA

"The courses at HHS are extremely intense, and we try to teach as much as is humanly possible in the short time that you are with us.  If you want to be the best, it will require a lot of hard work and drive.  We will do our part if you are willing to commit the effort necessary to master the farriers’ craft.  The training at HHS is tailored to the needs of an individual in developing a high degree of competence and confidence in their ability to shoe any horse.  These teaching methods allow students to enter the farrier industry with pride, confidence, a great deal of technical expertise and knowledge.  We set a high standard in all aspects of farriery so that our graduates can take that with them into the industry and succeed." ~ HHS
