""Honey, find me one of them pointing dogs with a beard. I'm tired of losing birds!" That was what Joe said back in 2016 while hunting grouse up in Northern MN. So began our adventure with German Wirehaired Pointers (GWPs)." ~ Erin Yanish
Joe and Erin have always had dogs but mostly herding breeds. Erin grew up showing dogs in 4-H obedience and agility. She also participated in Herding Trials. Joe and Erin enjoy working with their own dogs and find positive trainers and mentors to help them.
Their first GWP came from Heather Griswold with Rose Point Kennels. Mick turned out to be a wonderful gun dog that anyone can take out hunting no matter your pace or level, Mick brings the skill. He is so thorough when quartering a field that you won't miss a bird.
Their next GWP came from Angie Johnson with Reece Kennels. Chex has been the perfect addition to the family. When you meet her you can't help but fall in love! Besides her flashy movement and personality she loves hunting and water. She has proven to be another great dog in the field and water as she is methodical when working a field and has amazing tracking skills!
Their third GWP came out of Florida from Rick & Dee Donohue with Double D German Wirehaired Pointers. Ripley has a commanding presence in the filed and ring. The nose on this boy can find a bird well off which comes in super handy during the late hunting season in MN when birds are quick to flush if you get too close or are buried in foliage or snow.
In 2020 they added 2 more females to thier pack who are both from Double D German Wirehaired Pointers. Livi is out of Rumor x Atz and is tremendous in the field and one of the easiest ones to work with due to her trainability and biddability. She stands out in the ring with her beautiful liver ticking and her feminine style. Luna is out of BeBe x Ripley and is flashy in the field and ring. She really gets out in the field and like her daddy, has some great tracking skills knowing how to use her nose!
As time goes on the home pack changes now that they started breeding with the first litter out of Chance x Livi in 2022. They co-own dogs that come to work on hunting or other events for a time then go back to their primary owners.
All three breeders that they have purchased from are helpful mentors and have been instrumental in getting them on the right track when it comes to doing the best for their dogs and the breed. They are all members of local GWP clubs as well as the National club (GWPCA).
The Yanishes are active members and volunteers in organizations like the Twin Cities German Wirehaired Pointer Club (TCGWPC), the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA), the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) & MN NAVHDA and they also volunteer as 4-H Dog Program leaders helping youth with a variety of dog related things.
Their dogs are more than just dogs, they are family that live in the house. Their dogs are with them as much as possible and go with wherever dogs are welcome. It is common to see their dogs watching outdoor sporting events with them while cheering on family members or friends, fleet and other stores that are dog friendly, a variety of outdoor community and school events, on their farm doing chores, on the job, vacations and many other places.
The Yanishes live on an active ranch that includes a variety of of other animals.
